Professional Development Programme (PDP) for Intellectual Property (IP) Generation

Our Professional Development  Programme for Intellectual Property Generation (PDP-IP) addresses the intellectual needs of highly-skilled professionals working in varied industries, such as ICT, healthcare, petroleum, banking & finance, and enables them to explore enormous possibilities in a dynamic business environment via active innovative interactions and research. The programme sessions are specialised accordingly to capture transition from the conceptual to the practical experiences around intellectual skills, e.g. start from a basic idea through to patent generation and filing. The skills developed through this programme will demonstrate the delegate’s capabilities to become an expert in their field, thus enabling innovative thinking and advanced skills for knowledge exploitation and management.

Target users
Aim

• Intellectual Property (IP) or patents are important, however, several aspects need to be considered from generating an idea through to filing a patent. IPs contribute to a company's overall profile and build its reputation as strong market leaders. They offer a competitive edge where the company has the right to exclude others from exploiting their patented technology (or product) thus leading the company to become pre-eminent player in the business world. IPs not only raise overall corporate value that greatly relies of intellectual assets (such as IPs) but also prove useful for establishing business partnerships and raising funds. World-known companies reckon intellectual assets or patents as one of the measures of their company's prestige, and it is equally prestigious for an individual inventor to generate IPs.

Why PDP-IP?

• However, the entire process of patent generation, i.e. from establishing an idea through to patent filing is quite intricate. It consists of multiple parameters and variables, both technical and legal, that need to be considered in anticipation. There are several issues faced, especially by novice patent filers, including distinguishing between an idea and a patent, defining a technical problem, suggesting a technical solution, finding building blocks of a patent, varied legislations such as UKPO, EPO, US patent filings, etc. In order to pursue a successful patent process, it is imperative to have adequate training and necessary information around various aspects of the intellectual property. Hence our programme PDP-IP serves this purpose thus enabling skilled professionals to enhance their intellectual and innovative profiles.
